SUBJECT:       Forest Fires Update

Dear Members and Residents,

We would like to update you on the forest fires situation of Nemaska.

Current status:

  • Fire 252 is approximately 10 km south of Old Nemaska. The wind is favourable, pushing the fire in the opposite direction. It is currently being monitored but is stable, thanks in part to recent rainfall.
  • Fire 255 near the airport of Némiscau is now considered extinguished.
  • Fire 256 at KM 320 of Route du Nord is still smouldering slightly but is located on an island and appears to be running out of fuel. If it moves, it should not go far.

Water bombers are also monitoring the area, ready to act if a significant fire starts. Currently, they estimate that the situation is under control.

Old Nemaska

The situation at Old Nemaska is stable and is considered safe for elders to return as of now. The PurpleAir monitoring device should be operational today in Old Nemaska. This device will help us reassess the air quality situation daily.

Travel

The Route du Nord and the Billy Diamond Highway are open. We advise people travelling to be careful and to stay updated through the official channels.

Official Communication Channels

We kindly remind all community members to rely on official sources of information for updates and guidance. While we appreciate the concern and communication among friends and family on social media, it is crucial to refer to verified and official channels for accurate information not to create stress to our members.
