Forest Fires – Update July 12

SUBJECT:       Forest Fires Update

Dear Members and Residents,

We would like to update you on the forest fires situation of Nemaska.

Current status:

• Fire 252 is approximately 10 km south of Old Nemaska. It is currently being monitored but is stable.
• Fire 256 at KM 320 of Route du Nord is stable.
• Fire 322 is located 31 km north west of Nemaska started yesterday, and released a lot of smoke. Air tankers began a mission around 4 p.m. on July 11 to reduce the intensity of the fire. However, the mission was abandoned because there was too much intensity and the water source was far away. At this time, the fire does not pose an imminent threat to human life or strategic infrastructures.

Old Nemaska

The situation at Old Nemaska is stable.

Travel

The Route du Nord and the Billy Diamond Highway are open. We advise people travelling to be careful and to stay updated through the official channels.
